Woman's body found in Milpitas landfill (BCN) -- San Jose police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found at the Newby Island Landfill June 2. Officers were called to the landfill at 1601 Dixon Landing Road in Milpitas at about 6 a.m. after workers found the woman's body "during processing operations," police said.The woman has been identified as 34-year-old LaToya Covington, who was a transient, according to Santa Clara County Medical Examiner's Office.The circumstances surrounding her death, as well as the cause, are still being investigated, according to San Jose police.Copyright © 2023 Bay City News, Inc.

Pedestrian dies after being hit by car in San Jose (KRON) -- A collision between a vehicle and pedestrian left one person dead in East San Jose on Monday morning, according to the San Jose Police Department. Officers responded to the scene at 8:04 a.m., according to SJPD. 1 dead, 6 injured in shooting at Antioch birthday party The crash occurred near McKee Road and Jackson Avenue. The pedestrian was identified as a man who suffered life-threatening injuries. He was declared dead at the scene. The man was struck by a 2008 red Lexus sedan traveling west on McKee. The pedestrian was walking north across McKee, outside of any marked crosswalks, police said. The driver of the Lexus, described as an adult man, remained on the scene and is cooperating with investigators. The victim's identity will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office and confirmation and notification of next of kin.This is the 20th fatal collision and 21st traffic death in San Jose this year. This is also the 13th pedestrian death of 2023.
