FRANCIS-DLS: THE NIGHT HISTORY CHANGEDNobody knows how the path forward would have unfolded had St. Francis not beaten De La Salle two years ago, a monumental outcome because at the time the Concord powerhouse had not lost to an opponent from this region in 30 years. But this much is clear:Since St. Francis’ stunning 31-28 victory at home over the Spartans on Sept. 10, 2021, De La Salle has not been the same. The Spartans have been defeated eight times since the loss in Mountain View, including five games to teams from this part of the state. The latest loss, Saturday at Serra, was the most decisive yet. Kyle Shanahan is entering his seventh season as the 49ers coach, making him their longest-tenured man in charge since the Super Bowl-winning days under Bill Walsh (1979-88) and George Seifert (1989-96).Is Shanahan snakebit, however, from following in those coaches’ footsteps and adding a sixth Lombardi Trophy to the 49ers’ cache? Each of the past two seasons has ended with frustrating NFC Championship Game defeats for the 49ers. Two seasons ago, they saw a 10-point fourth-quarter lead slip away to the Los Angeles Rams, who went on to beat the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI. Last season, they saw quarterback Brock Purdy tear the UCL in the elbow of his throwing arm early in a 31-7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, who were edged 38-35 in the Super Bowl by Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan gestures from the sideline against the Denver Broncos in the fourth quarter of a NFL preseason game at Levi’s Stadium in S...Santa Clara officials approve more housing near university

The Santa Clara City Council voted 6-1 earlier this week to approve a new housing development near the university. Councilmember Kevin Park was the sole no vote. The approval is key to breaking ground on the mixed-use housing complex planned at 2655 The Alameda, to revitalize a long-abandoned lot and create much-needed housing near the city's transit center. "The project will finally transform a blighted corner and an eyesore of 30-plus years into a beautiful mixed-use building for the community," Kapital Partners developer Anjuli Nanda Habbas said at the meeting. Completing this project will require an amendment to the city's general plan. Councilmember Anthony Becker said he isn't in favor of repeatedly amending the general plan for developments, but would in this case to move The Alameda project forward.
